The Australian Government have started rolling out changes to health insurance. There are some changes that will impact Orthopaedic patients.

If you are planning joint replacement surgery, we encourage you to contact your Private Health Fund provider to check on your level of cover.

For joint replacements, the items numbers you will need coverage from your fund are:

49318 (Total Hip Replacement)
49518 (Total Knee Replacement)
49517 (Partial Knee Replacement)
48918 (Total Shoulder Replacement)

What the changes mean is that some existing policies that have previously covered joint replacement surgery will no longer. Once the changes are implemented across all Health Funds you will need to have Gold cover for joint replacement surgery.
